Artist Name: Smith, Betty Anglin
Betty Anglin Smith, who lives in Charleston, South Carolina has visited the Vineyard, and like so many others, has fallen for its dramatic vistas, light and color. Her paintings are infused with the deep and fiery feelings area natives possess for their land. The effect the landscape has on Smith is apparent not just in the energy, movement, and spontaneity of her stroke but in her use of color as well. Ms. Smith’s work has won numerous awards in national juried shows across the country, including a Best Of Show at Charleston’s world-famous Spoleto Arts Festival. Her work has been featured in Southern Accents magazine, side by side with that of Wolf Kahn, one of America’s most highly respected artists. A native of the Carolinas, Betty graduated from Winthrop College and took art classes at the College of Charleston. Independent study with nationally known artists such as Alex Powers, Charles Reid, Robert E. Wood, and Valfred Thelin brought her to the recognition she receives today. Her paintings hang in many private and museum collections across the country. Corporate clients include Walt Disney World, Johnson & Johnson, IBM, BankBoston, and U.S Trust.
